Step 3: Next rename msgstore.db.crypt12 to msgstore-latest.db.crypt12.

Step 4: Rename msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12.

Step 6: If you have enabled the Google Drive backup then open Google Drive > slide out the left menu > hit on Backup > delete the backup file of WhatsApp.

Step 7: Now, again install WhatsApp from Google Play Store.

How To Recover Deleted WhatsApp Chats On Android

WhatsApp keeps old backup files of your WhatsApp chats. One is the newest chat backup and the other depends on your auto backup frequency. WhatsApp backup files are stored in Google Drive and also in the phone’s local backup.

Step 3: Now, you will be able to see various chat backup files. The new one will be named as – msgstore.db.crypt12 and other backup files will look as msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12. Where YYYY-MM-DD represents the year, month and date respectively.

Step 1: Rename msgstore.db.crypt12 to msgstore-latest.db.crypt12. It will change the new backup file as you are changing the name of the old backup file.

Step 2: Then rename msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 which you wish to restore to msgstore.db.crypt12.

Now, uninstall WhatsApp. If you have created a backup by enabling Google Drive backups then to restore the backup file you need to open the Google Drive app, tap on menu button and then choose the backup. You will find the WhatsApp backup file containing a phone number with it. Then tap on three vertical dots and select Delete backup to remove it.

This will prevent WhatsApp from using Google Drive backup file and it will restore from the local file that you wish to recover.

Now, again install WhatsApp from Google Play Store. Set up your phone and during this, you will be asked to restore the backup file that you have renamed. You can see this as X days old in the place of the most recent backup file.
